Target Learners
This activity is designed for all healthcare professionals, whose scope of practice includes patients who use tobacco and who are interested in increasing smoking quit rates within their healthcare setting.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe a brief, practical, protocol all clinicians can use to initiate the smoking cessation process in any patient setting.
  • Summarize how basic motivational interviewing techniques can support
    this process.
  • Explain the importance of clinicians referring patients to appropriate intensive interventions after initiating the cessation process.

Method of Participation
There are no fees or pre-requisites for participating in and receiving credit for this online educational activity.  In order to obtain credit for participating in this activity during the period of September 28, 2011 through September 27, 2012, participants must:

  • Read the educational objectives and disclosure statements
  • Study the educational activity
  • Complete the online polling questions and score 70% or higher in the post-test
  • Complete the evaluation
  • Submit the evaluation and post-test online to IPMA

Credit will be issued only upon receipt of a post-test with a score of 70% or higher and a completed activity evaluation.  After submitting these forms, you will be able to print out your credit certificate.  This activity should take 1.5 hours to complete
